Nadine: 'I've always been close to Cheryl'
Monday 22 March 2010
Girls Aloud's Nadine Coyle has spoken out to address rumours of a feud between her and bandmate Cheryl Cole - and an alleged rift with the other girls.
The Irish beauty has long been accused of distancing herself from her bandmates - and in recent weeks her relationship with mega-successful Cheryl has come under scrutiny, with sources claiming that Nadine is jealous of her fellow Aloud babe's rise to super-stardom.
But Nadine insists that she has 'always been close to Cheryl' and respects her for all she has achieved, despite admitting in the past that it was hard not to be envious of the support everyone's favourite Geordie gal is getting from pop mogul Simon Cowell.
Nadine, who performed with Irish band Boyzone last night - taking the place of the late Stephen Gately - said: 'I would like to know who's saying we've fallen out because I know it's not coming from me.'
And she claims that despite contrary reports, she DID call heartbroken Cheryl when she fled to LA to escape the media attention surrounding her marital problems.
'I sent Cheryl an email and I called her. I was working on the album and dashing around. She was working and doing her thing.
'She wasn't here for very long so we didn't get the chance to meet up.'
Nadine, who has been living in Los Angeles for the last few years, has set tongues wagging in the past by missing important appearances with Girls Aloud and is said to put herself under immense pressure to match Cheryl's solo success.
She was pictured in London last week looking worringly slim, but defended her skinny frame, claimimg that she is not a size zero and saying that she 'would hate people to think I have any type of eating disorder'.
Talking about the Girls Aloud gap year, she said: 'I think having space from each other is a good thing. People were in each other's faces all the time.'
Judging by her performance with Boyzone, Nadine seems to be thoroughly enjoying her stint away from the band.
She sang with the Irish crooners for their ITV1 tribute to Stephen Gately and admitted it was 'strange' to be standing in his place.
Nad said: 'The lads joked, 'Don't sing the song too good or Stephen will be cursing you from above.''
