Natalie Cassidy

Natalie Cassidy: 'I wasn't beaten black & blue'

Wednesday 22 February 2012

Although she admits she was left humiliated by her fiancé when he hit her after an argument, Natalie Cassidy has made the decision to take back Adam Cottrell.

The Eastenders’ star split from Adam Cottrell last year due to disputes between the two that turned violent but has decided to give things another go after Adam decided to seek help for his addiction to alcohol.

Natalie has spoken out about her decision, claiming that she was never 'beaten black and blue.'

She said: 'Adam and drink didn’t mix from the beginning. It did change and it got worse I was permanently on edge for him to have one drink – I put pressure on him.

'Many people who have partners they don’t like as much when they have a drink.'

Natalie revealed the moment she had decided to end the relationship.

“Arguments weren’t verbal anymore, they became physical. We had an argument – he took a slipper and hit me” she said.

"I’m a strong person but  I was humiliated.

"I stayed because it takes a while you feel embarrassed you don’t what to tell your family members straight away.

"But I opened up to friends and family and I was strong enough to get a restraining order, which is hard to do against the father of your child."

After some time Natalie decided to leave Adam and testify against him in court. He was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and given a restraining order to stop him from contacting Natalie.

Adam, 32, was convicted of assaulting her and smashing up their Hertfordshire flat and now Natalie faces criticism from fans as she revealed they had rekindled their relationship.

After getting the restraining order put on Adam she thought it would be best to get it lifted in order for him to spend time with his daughter Eliza.

Adam, who had claimed to have stopped drinking, was taken back by the doting-mother after she found out about his relapse.

“He was found…drunk in an old lady’s garden. It was a frightening relapse,” said a worried Natalie,

“He had stopped drinking and thought he could do it on his own – but he can’t.”

She did mention that if he were to fall off the wagon, however, then things would need to be dealt with accordingly:

'If anything violent were to happen again it would absolutely be it if he went out and had a drink again I would address it.

'I know 100 per cent that if it carries on and he continues doing what he’s doing then I know we’re going to be very happy.'
