Joe Xfactor Closeronline Rage against the machine

Rage beat Joe in the midweeks

Wednesday 16 December 2009

Oh dear... the campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas Number 1 spot went from a funny idea to a reality yesterday.

Killing In The Name held the midweek top spot after 83,276 sales, with Joe's cover of The Climb holding second place with 77,401.

The campaign to get Rage to Number 1, which was launched by some students on the social networking site Facebook, is also taking donations to the charity Shelter alongside downloads, and has raised £30,000 for the charity so far.

Joe was papped filming for the video for The Climb, with reports saying that he was still hopeful about grabbing the Number 1 spot with a bit of weekend press.

The winner of The X Factor has held the Number 1 spot for the past four years, so it's understandable that the alternative crowd would want a say in the matter.

And with the website Amazon selling Killing In The Name for just 29p, the alternative festive anthem is a cheaper option for the music-buying public.

What's more, the campaign doesn't seem to be an attack on Joe - merely on Simon Cowell (who has already called the initiative 'stupid') and his X Factor empire.

But we can't help but think of how crushed Joe would be if he didn't get a Christmas Number 1 - he's too lovely to upset!

Meanwhile, it was reported today that the 18-year-old might be moving in with his co-star Rachel Adedeji as they both kick off their singing careers.

The pair apparently struck up a friendship during the competition, which may explain why Rachel grabbed the mic from Joe while his win was announced.

For those who aren't familiar with Killing In The Name, here's the official video (contains some strong language):

I think its rieiculas for the Xfactor team to think that they automatically deserve number 1 hits - that's not the real way to sell records - I hope Bing Crosby's white Christmas is number 1, or Slade, or in fact anyone else!!!!

RE: Rage beat Joe in the midweeks

Though one finds Simon Cowell as toxic as an oil slick devastating a rich marine life shoreline, it is quite unfair to attack one's South Shields studmuffin, Joe. He is a delightful, well brought up and well mannered young man who is just wishing to embark on his superstar career.

It is certainly no surprise that students are 'raging against the machine'; one understands many of them have still not received their loans, so what else are they to do with their free time?

Though one salutes the effort by RATM, one feels Joe has infinite longevity, plus he has a voice that sends pleasing vibrations over one's entire epidermis and is exquisitely turned out - unlike his opponents.

If they are to be the vision of Christmas, with their rather unpleasant hair styling and man-made fibres what next? Santa turning up on one's door step, smoking a joint, wearing droopy jeans and exposing a little Christmas crack? One thinks not.

Even if you don't get to number one, Joe dear, you had over five million people voting for you on your victorious night. RATM will only achieve the members of the Student Union and the local indie club.

Love, joy and laughter

RE: Rage beat Joe in the midweeks

damecrusty, one agrees in many points but please Santa smoking a joint wearing droopy jeans and exposing a xmas crack, you peeked, you peeked lol!! Only joking, Santa's getting his holey stockings sewn up in preparation for his xmas eve flight, smelly socks upset the reindeer y'know lol!! NO I have not been on the aforementioned joint, but even though they've raised money for the homeless the students are once more trying to control the outcome of events - they've done the same by voting en masse online for free in these talent competitions to decide the winner!!
Xmas wouldn't be xmas without a nostalgic number 1, but one true favourite of mine (apart from all the other xmas songs) is Silent Night, that always has goosebumps on my spine and I think Elvis recorded a version which was partly sung in German - if I'm right, that would be a truly worthy number 1 - even if he never recorded it I'm positive he sang it on stage somewhere!!

Nothing against Joe., Simon Cowell is a twat! x factor is OVER
Joe will certainly have a good career, he'd be amazing in the West End.
