Rihanna: 'It could happen to anyone'
Wednesday 04 November 2009
R'n'B beauty Rihanna has finally spoken out about the violent attack that left her bruised and battered earlier this year after an argument with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
The singer was assaulted by her lover after a pre-Grammys party last February, when Brown punched her in the face and bit her arms in his car.
Rihanna, 21, said on talkshow Good Morning America: "This happened to me. It can happen to anyone."
She also admitted that she struggled with her feelings for her ex, whom she described as her "first big love".
The interview is set to be screened this week. In a separate interview with Glamour magazine, the Bajan beauty explained that she hopes talking about her own ordeal will encourage other victims of domestic violence to speak out.
She said: "Teenage girls can't tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don't dare let your neighbour know that you fight.
"It's one of the things we (women) will hide, because it's embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery."
Chris Brown was sentenced to six months of community service, 12 months of domestic violence counselling and five years probation.
He is also forbidden by restraining order to come closer than a 100 yards from Rihanna for five years.
Do you think it is brave of Rihanna to speak out?

RE: Rihanna: 'It could happen to anyone'
Yes....more women & men of domestic violence should!
My ex hit me quite afew times, the first time he did he promised never to do it again, but he did,he broke my arm after an argument about his dinner being cold! I didn't tell anyone about the abuse for years, until one day i woke up & thought enoughs enough,& left him, while he was at work!
It was hard to leave with my son, because for years i had it drilled into me i was useless & no man would ever want me,but i am very happily engaged now to a wonderful man,who loves me,warts an all : )
My only regret is not leaving my ex husband the first time he hit me,because,i put up with 12 years of abuse that could quite easily have killed me!
