Simon Cowell demands budget increase

Friday 11 December 2009

Simon Cowell has threatened to axe the X Factor unless the show's budget is drastically increased by ITV1. Simon Cowell

The 50-year-old music mogul has said in a press conference that he will refuse to work on another series of the show unless the budget is raised by a whopping £3million.

Simon said of the increase: "I think there is genuine interest from the people behind the show to bring it back - but if we do, it needs to be better than this year."

He also told the press that he would like to see Cheryl Cole return as a judge this year, adding that he was keen to increase her salary from its current £1.2million.

Simon also spoke about his outrage over an Internet campaign to get rockers Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas Number 1 spot, which has been devised on Facebook.

Campaigners are pledging for people to download the band's political song Killing In The Name to stop the X Factor winner from hitting the top spot, as they have done for the past few years.

Simon said of the movement: "It's stupid - a cynical campaign aimed at me which is going to spoil the party."

Well, that was kind of the point, Simon...

Will Simon get his budget increase? Do you want the X Factor winner to be Christmas Number 1, or will you be opting for Rage Against The Machine?

Axe it now, it's well past it's sell by date!!
If the pay rise goes towards elocution lessons for Cheryl, that might be money well spent!

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

3 million.......for what exactly?
The X Factor is supposed to be about talent, not about how much special effects you use on stage or what outfit Cheryl Cole wears. They've (Simon) already stripped away the nitty gritty of the show and made it into something that has to be covered up with nonsense, distracting your attention away from what this programme should be about......the contestants. And in Britains financial crisis Simon should be utterly ashamed of himself.

with many people losing their jobs, homes and businesses you would think that people who are more fortunate to never have to worry would be more sympathetic and show some decorum instead of greedily asking for more money. its not as if she needs it. i dont begrudge people their income or lifestyles that their careers afford them but at a time like this they should think about people who are left struggling to hold a roof over their heads and have some sympathy.

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

Get rid of X-Factor its tired now and soooo predictable. Every year by the end of the show, the contestants get so manufactured and lack soul and personality that its not worth the effort. Its certainly making a mug of all those who vote. When someone wins it they may have career span of a year or so but no real control over the music etc. Cowell is totally masterminding it all and is a control freak. He manipulates the audience the music buyers who are mainly youngsters.
Hes so loaded its unbelievable he doesnt need to make money off the joe public anymore, people need to go back to discovering real bands, real music and people who strive tooth and nail to make it into the music industry from sheer hard graft.
Not the likes of Cole who lauds it around week after week in £3,000 outfits she only wears once. Where is the humanity in the UK, its become a shallow, self obbsessed country like the USA, who are the biggest throw away society in existence, where it just matters about how much money you have and how perfect you appear.
Dont let Cowell do another year of X-Factor he doesnt have the god given right to appear on our screens year after year, give some other talent show a chance if thats what people really like.

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

Well he is back next year and shock horror he wants to ditch Dannii for Mel B, whos desperate for a job! Also read today he wants a 5th judge, Robbie Williams!!! so it figures why he needs all this extra dosh to fuel these egotastical nightmares. Bring back the days of pop idol I say when it was an innocent talent conest with 4 judges who really knew the music industry and gave a strong technical opinion. Nikki Chapman, Nasty Nigel and mr pete waterman, none of this ludicrous dressing competition that we now have and who has the best teeth whintening and botox injections, Its all about the judges now, not the contestants, it makes a mockery of all those who entered. Never will understand why Rachel Adedeji got the boot so early on!

If the above comment is right and Simon wants a 5th judge, what category would they mentor??? There's none left.

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

I am thinking he may split the over 25's into male female as with the under 25's. He wants to string out the show more than ever and will have 16 finalists instead of 12. Of course he wont get his way if they dont give him the extra money.

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

Closer, closer you win I concede!! I've tried to post a comment on this subject 6 times now and it's not really that important other than to try and beat your ludicrous censorship lol!!
Axe X-Factor now please, please, pretty please Simon - Cheryl Cole doesn't deserve the £1.2 million she already gets for her smug faced, untalented opinions lol!! Since it's fixed these days by leaked media stories to sway the viewing public's choice and since there are so very many proven stories of the phone lines being fixed on these ring in vote shows, the show has no real credibility anymone!! For any star in credit crunch times to be demanding diva like increases in pay to return, which is just blackmail, or massive pay demands is totally unconsciounable!!
Try living in the real world where most are struggling to even be able to afford their xmas pressies, their mortgages, their rent and utilities, the very basic FOOD they need to live!! Most of Hollywood has had and accepted massive budget slashes just to keep going - if they can do it so can these greedy little celebs, the most recent of which example of course being Jordan in I'm a celeb!! If footballers of course were paid according to their real talent their poor little WAG wives would need to work too lol!!

RE: Simon Cowell demands budget increase

sdfsdf I'll try, I was trying to say that with more children living in poverty now in this country than in Victorian times and with some wages as low as £8k p.a for any of these stars/celebs/overpaid nonentities to be demanding pay increases by the million is stomach churning!!
Nurses, doctors (some), paramedics, fireman/women, cops don't get paid anywhere near their worth to our society as a whole, personally I'd prefer one of the aforementioned to be there if needed to save my life or anyone elses than to be watching X-Factor's overpaid judges lol!! Simon Cowell, Oprah, and thousands of other stars give millions to charities and to help those in need, good for them for trying to do something for those in need, however and I know many won't agree, to them this is just a tax write off they can afford no matter how well intentioned their motives hm?!
My point, society as a whole seems happy to cave into these little diva's and stars demands for more money when they aren't worth it and when the whole world is in credit crunch living circumstances!! Call their bluff, they'll still be there for less money because if they aren't seen or heard nobody knows who they are lol!!
Most comments here tend to agree with mine in principal about the greed, and even the bankers have been told if they award themselves massive bonuses this year there will be a 50% windfall tax to curve their greed!! If at no other time in the year than xmas the attention should be set on giving instead of receiving (GOT THAT SIMON?)!!!
