First ever X Factor winner takes a dig at Simon
Tuesday 14 December 2010
2004 X Factor winner, Steve Brookstein, yesterday sent out a warning to voters and newly crowned X Factor winner Matt Cardle as 7 years on he is left performing in empty coffee shops.
According to the Daily Mail, the singer decided to voice his views after he performed at a Café Nero in Ipswich and nobody turned up. Blaming the less than brilliant turn out on an ‘administrative error’ he stated: 'I had been pencilled in to play at 6pm, only to find that the cafe closed at that time...and there was also only one small poster in the window. I think it could have been handled better.'
The 41-year-old, who accomplished his only number one single and album off the back of the show, took to twitter to urge his 3000 strong followers not to vote and to abstain from feeding the music mogul’s million dollar lifestyle.
Steve made his feelings for Simon no secret when he said that he thought the one million X Factor deal was a scam, writing: 'Simon Cowell offered me £12,500 to go away quietly, I said no.'
He added, 'In 8 months, I got two gigs, an album of covers, one single, no video. Six years of negative press for telling the truth.
Urging people not to pick up their phones on Saturday night, he referred to past contestants JLS saying, 'Sometimes it helps if you don't win the xfactor - just look at JLS.'
The X Factor has-been, who continues his tour of Café Nero’s across the country, did however insist that he was not bitter, saying: '6 years today, I won X Factor, today singing to 20 people in Caffe Nero and 20 million watching X Factor tonight. Need to work on my PR lol.'
Adding: 'Bitterness is a word used when tyranny is being exposed. The repressed will fall silent in fear of ridicule. I am brave. :0).'

i do feel bad for him and the other conteststants who dont get any work out of it. they get catapulted into a showbiz life hanging out with celebs, going to premiers and living in the spotlight, all the while simon and the producers and itv are making millions in viewing figures and people's phonecalls to vote, as soon as they've left the're back down to earth with a bump with no further guidance or support and its not right! i think he was right not to take the money out of prinicple but he probably could have done with it as he's struggling!

Winning the show is not a guarantee of everlasting success. They have to
work really hard and make really good music for that to happen. Although some of them do seem to have been left to dry. It looks like Shane Ward is about to be dropped, and Joe hasn't exactly set the world alight since last year. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of the winning lot of this year.
Very few make it, but you're right sugar sweet, regardless, Simon Cowell will always make millions from it.
