The X factor judes with Geri Halliwell as a guest judge Shirlena Johnson X factor

The X Factor is back!

Monday 23 August 2010

Is it us or has this year just flown by? It’s that time of the year again when our Saturday nights are overtaken by hysterical laughter, tears and Simon Cowell. Yes, the X Factor is back!

The show hit our screens on Saturday night and, of course, we were glued to the sofa to watch the auditions unfold.

Kicking off with a 90-minute-long first episode, we watched in fascination some of the most talented (and not so talented) auditions form London and Glasgow.

Guest judge Geri Haliwell joined Simon, Cheryl and Louis on the judging panel to cover for the then still pregnant Dannii Minogue. The 38-year-old didn't do a bad job but couldn't help get carried away with her feedback at times, as she gabbled on about her days in the Spice Girls!

Among the highlights of the show was Shirlena Johnson, a single mum from East London who performed a somewhat bizarre version of Duffy’s Mercy; kicking and clawing throughout the song, she told The Sun that she had not planned to perform such a bizarre performance but had to make up the lyrics after forgetting her words (Oh, we love you X Factor).

Surprisingly, Simon gave her a 'yes' after confessing he wanted to see what she would bring to Bootcamp.

Zimbabwe born Gamu Nhengu wowed the judges with her rendition of Walking On Sunshine, and London group Jham stunned the audience into a deathly silence with their out of tune version of Bad Romance.

As entertaining as it all was, the show has since been accused of doctoring the singer’s voices in a bid to make them sound better. An X Factor spokesman said post-production work was necessary but that the judges make their decision by what they hear in the auditorium on the day.

“When it gets to the live shows, it will all be live.”

Well, we can’t wait for next week!

Did you watch the X factor on Saturday? Who was your favourite - or most cringe-worthy -  act?

RE: The X Factor is back!

i cant help but think that weve seen it all before and although its good entertainment its more a brand than a talent contest and after 7 series its getting boring seeing the same old talentless wasters who the producers let embarass themsleves, the sob stories and people who can genuinly sing but havent got all that much to them! it was even in the paper today that they played around with the key of some of the auditionees to make them sound in tune when in fact they wernt!
