Emma Watson's dress and trouser combo: love or loathe?

Emma Watson rarely gets it wrong when it comes to style - but it looks as though her recent look has her fans sitting on the fence.

The Harry Potter actress surprised her fans - and the fashion pack - by opting for a more masculine ensemble than we're used to seeing her in. Wearing a black cut-off ballgown, Emma then teamed her dress with a pair of black cigarette trousers.
 
Despite her outfit being wildly critisised by the media, the 22-year-old still managed to look stylish and mature beyond her years.

The star has never been one to confine herself to conventional fashion trends though.

“I don’t like to look too perfect. I like to mix and match my own outfits” she said.

Emma was promoting her new film Perks Of Being A Wallflower, where she mentioned that she was worried that she would get ‘boxed in’ after her long stint as Hermoine Granger in the Harry Potter movies.
 
'I really get boxed up as ‘nice white middle-class girl,’ she said.
 
'I get to play a crazy LA valley girl, a Biblical girl, an American high school girl, an 18th century period girl... getting to do lots of different things. But it’s always worrying: is all that’s going to come out Hermione?”

Closer's Style Editor gave her verdict on Emma's look: "Tulips over trousers was an emerging trend during the Autumn Winter catwalks, so we can expect to see a lot more during Spring Summer. We think Emma looks great and is simply one step ahead of the rest of them!"
