Rihanna to design her first clothing collection for British high street store River Island
Tuesday 17 July 2012
A collective shriek of excitement rumbled round Closer's Fashion desk yesterday afternoon when news hit that Rihanna is set to collaborate with River Island on her very first clothing collection!
The fact that RiRi has decided to shun traditional celeb favourite stores – Topshop and H&M in favour of River Island goes to show the strength of the brand, who have been slowly building a stella celeb following over the past 2 seasons with the likes of Beyonce, Lana Del Ray, Whitney Port and Coleen Rooney all spotted in the brand.
"I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time," Rihanna has explained. "River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family-run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I'm looking forward to working with them and creating something really special."
Our style editor Kat has long been singing the fashion praises of the brand who she says are just getting better and better every season.
"It's a genius pairing and perfect for showcasing Rihanna's street cool style, I'm beyond excited to see what the amazing collab will bring, its such a massive fashion coo for River Island."
And River Island's chief executive, Ben Lewis seems extremely happy with the decision too.
“Rihanna is a style icon, from street to chic she enjoys her fashion," he said.
“As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit. Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love.”
Set to launch in Spring 2013, you can be sure that we will bring you any sneak previews we can get our hands on whilst we get set to flex our fashion muscles in the race to the River Island tills.
