Greece - Zante
Friday 21 December 2007
Three hours from Gatwick and with short transfer times, Zante [also known as Zakynthos] is great for families. It's also got some of the best tot and toddler-friendly sandy and gently shelving beaches in Greece, including the famous Smuggler's Cove - complete with white sand, turquoise water and a shipwreck - a kid's dream.
With plenty of watersports for older children, days on the beach have something for everyone. Or rent bikes and cycle round the islands’ good, and not too hilly, roads. Go through olive groves, take your time, enjoy the lush scenery. Once you get away from the tourist hotspots, there are quaint little villages and the remains of civilisations to discover.
Try and take a trip to one of the world's most important breeding sites for the loggerhead turtle in Laganas Bay and create budding conservationists out of your kids.
Where to stay: The 4* Apartments Porto Iliessa are in the heart of the popular resort of Argassi, with restaurants and bars on your doorstep.
How much? Seven nights from £372 per person with JMC. Call 0970 750 5711, or visit www.thomascook.com.
